The Financial Counsellor

A Financial Counsellor is prepared to offer a range of confidential counselling services to military personnel and their families. Financial Counsellors are located on all military Bases/Wings/Units.

Code of Ethics

Financial counsellors shall protect the client's right to confidentiality. It is important that the counsellor ensure that only those who actually have a need-to-know be informed (general information is often sufficient).

Counsellors shall respect at all times, the dignity and and integrity of the client and concentrate on his strengths.

Counsellors shall provide all military personnel and their families with the required assistance, regardless of occupation, rank or income.

Counsellors shall respect the client's right to determine his own choices; the client makes the final decision.

Counsellors shall ensure that all financial assessments are fair and objective and shall act in the best interest of thier clients and shall place the interest of the clients above their own.

Counsellors shall respect the rights and interests of third parties and ensure that their interests are not being violated.

Counsellors shall limit counselling to financial matters. The counsellor shall refer non-financial problems to the appropriate professionals. In extreme cases, such as when a client poses a danger to himself and/or to others, the counsellor shall remain with the client until the assigned professional has taken over. The counsellor shall monitor, generally, during three to six months, the progress made by the clients referred to a social worker, the padre, etc.
